As photographers and videographers, We’ve had the privilege of documenting many different weddings, each unique in its own way. But there’s something especially magical about capturing the cultural richness of a Syrian wedding, and Nawel and Ayoub’s celebration in Portland was no exception.

From the moment I arrived at the church, I could feel the warmth and joy that surrounded this beautiful couple. Nawal looked radiant in her intricate wedding dress, and Ayoub was dashing in his tailored suit, ready to begin a new chapter of life with his love. The couple’s families were gathered from near and far, bringing with them the sounds, colors, and traditions of Syria, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and deeply intimate.

One of the most moving parts of the day was the traditional zaffa—a stunning Syrian wedding procession with music, dancing, and laughter. The energy was infectious as the bride and groom, flanked by their loved ones, entered the venue to the rhythmic beats. As a photographer, it was a dream to capture such an electric moment, where joy was shared in every smile and every step.

The wedding ceremony was filled with meaningful rituals, each with deep cultural significance. From the exchanging of rings, every moment reflected the strong bond between Nawel and Ayoub. The beauty of these traditions, coupled with the love in the couple’s eyes, made it an incredibly emotional experience to document.

Portland, with its scenic landscapes and vibrant cultural diversity, was the perfect backdrop for a Syrian wedding, allowing for a blend of timeless traditions and the modernity of a city that embraces cultural exchange. As a photographer and videographer, I am always grateful for the opportunity to capture such personal and significant moments in a couple’s life—especially when they come with the richness of Syrian heritage.
