Family Four Wheeling Trip

Since I can remember, a lot of our summer weekends were spent down in Florence, Oregon camping at Honeyman State Park and four wheeling at the dunes. Some of our best memories come from these trips, hanging out by the fire, riding until the evening and Costco muffins (Some how camping makes Costco muffins even better!).

Since graduating high school, with college, marriage and kids, it seemed as though the four wheeling days were over.  The four wheelers were gathering dust and our parents were talking about selling them.  Thankfully,  my ambitious brother in law, Andrew, wasn’t down with that plan, he got all the bikes in working order at the beginning of the summer and got us all excited about going back to the dunes before school started again.  We only had time to go to the dunes once this last summer, but hopefully that will change in summers to come.

Back in the day, it was always about how far could we jump and how stupid could we get.  It wasn’t uncommon to barrel up 50 ft dunes to launch to ridiculous lengths.  Except for Dan, our mind set has changed a little this year.  So basically you can thank Dan for most of the jumping shots in the video.

It was so fun to see our children’s eyes light up as they heard the loud thunderous roar of the four wheelers starting up and as we drove the kids through the dunes.  Even when the bikes weren’t in use, the kids would sit on them making “BRRRRM” sounds out of their mouths pretending to race of the hill.

While Zaden was one of the first to get to the bikes and always wanted to go on rides, he seemed to have a problem actually staying awake until the ride was over!  The first time he fell asleep was when we took the kids to the beach.  I could understand the reason why this time, because we were going slower due to smaller kids.  However, the second time he fell asleep, I was riding pretty aggressively through trails trying to show him a good time.  But sure enough, when I pulled back to our spot, his head was down to the left laying in my arm.

We love that the four wheelers are working again and are excited to pass on these memories to our kids that we cherish so much from our childhood!

Northern California

I live in a location often flooded with tourist within Orange County California. Come the 4th of July, the place I reside and call home, becomes VERY over-crowded and full of people who want to party at the beach.

This year, I just didn’t have the patience for backed up traffic on the PCH, loud boom-boxes on beach cruisers, and flabby middle aged farmer tans. I was out at 5am come Saturday morning, and Thor (my dog) and I headed north to one of my favorite places in the world; Big Sur, CA.

The weather was a little more gloomy than usual, but the beauty of this place always blows my mind. While, there I took a little service road the ended up going many miles into the towering mountains. I found a little hidden camp site that I most definitely will be utilizing in the near future.

I then continued north past San Francisco to a little spot outside of Santa Rosa, where I posted up for the night. Come the next day, I woke up at the crack of dawn and voyaged on to a place I have wanted to see for a very long time; Redwood national forest. This land is a dark paradise always in the shadow of the worlds tallest trees. I found myself once again on a service road tucked way deep into the forest where I not only crashed my drone again, but was able to breath in the freshness of the leaves and listen to the majestic sounds of the forest.

I then trekked onward from the CA/OR boarder to the eastern part of California; Yosemite National park. I can’t even to begin to describe how epic this place is. But in one word, MASSIVE! The highlight once again for me was the time I took, not to film, but to just sit and enjoy the life I have, and the beauty this earth is.

I then headed home.

All-in-all, in 3 days I drove about 1700 miles and saw so many beautiful things that will become one of those mental scars that will always be with you. Ironically enough though, what I saw wasn’t the highlight of the trip. It was what I learned about myself, and the analysis of where I am in my life voyage.

The best part about travel for me, isn’t the location I visit and the things learned about that destination; but rather the discovery within me, and learning more about where I’m heading.

Fort Stevens, Oregon Coast

We took a family trip a few weeks ago to Fort Stevens. It was the perfect family vacation before baby Jade made her debut into this world. We stayed in a perfect little cabin with a much needed bathroom with a shower for a pregnant momma and sand filled kids. The kids rode their bikes, we visited the Bunkers and enjoyed our days at the beach. Here  are some pictures and of course a video showing a glimpse of what we did! Enjoy 🙂
